Marcasite is the name for mineral iron sulfide or iron pyrite. Chemical composition for both iron sulfide and iron pyrite is the same, but different in crystallization process. In the form of iron pyrite is commonly used as the gem called “marcasite”. The iron pyrite is commonly referred as fool’s gold, according to its bright and brassy streaks as the real gold.

The marcasite sparkle made it as a top jewelry choice today. The combination of marcasite with sterling silver always gives a stunning look jewelry. The other white metals are also great, but not with the yellow gold as the two color tones are not well blend together. The jewelry can be made for the elegant styles and designs for your choice.

There are many piece of jewelry made from marcasite, you can always found them as rings, earrings, brooches, pendants, necklace and bracelets. The gem is usually cut into pyramid shape for all jewelry pieces. Pearls, opals and crystals are often paired with marcasite for the attractive jewelry design. With the marcasite jewelry, you need to clean and care it in the proper way. Normally, iron pyrite is cemented to its setting, therefore it is important to avoid its wet as the stone can loose and falling from the setting. Always remove the jewelry before start your activities; swimming, showering or taking a bath. Washing the dishes or hands also need to be avoid for jewelry care. For the cleaning process, avoid steamers, water, any chemical cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners. You can use only a soft, dry damp clothes to remove tarnish from the setting and keep the stones clean without destroy the jewelry pieces. Make sure that you have dry the jewelry completely after the cleaning process, then place it back to your jewelry box. You will save these particular pieces with you as long as you clean and are them in this proper way.
